Research Interests

My research interests are in the area of experimental pathology, particularly in the study of experimental carcinogenesis, tumor responses to chemotherapeutic drugs, and the toxic side-effects of chemotherapies. I was originally trained in both human and rodent pathology, and for more than 25 years I have served as the study pathologist for numerous R01-funded research programs, in addition to my own research program in neuropathology. During this time, I have worked extensively on the development and validation of methods to detect and characterize morphological changes in cells and tissues at both the light microscopic and ultrastructural levels. I have particular interest in early cellular alterations in experimental models of cancer, including mammary cancer. I currently serve as Co-Director of the Biological Response Indicators Facility Core of the NIEHS P-30 grant, providing pathology support to Center investigators. I am also director of the P-30 Pilot Project Program, overseeing the solicitation, review and financial oversight of investigator-initiated pilot projects. I am the author or co-author of more than 150 papers and chapters, and I am board-certified by the American Board of Toxicology. I am past-Associate Editor of NeuroToxicology, and have been a member and/or Chair of numerous studies sections for NIH.
