Research Overview

World-class research conducted at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy is advancing basic science and improving human health, through the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, innovative technologies, and best practices in healthcare. Nationally and internationally recognized for the caliber of our research program, our school consistently ranks as one of the top 15 recipients among 142 accredited schools of pharmacy in funding from the National Institutes of Health.

Ours is a collaborative, supportive pharmacy research community of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Each of our five academic departments is actively engaged in high-impact research programs, in core areas that include drug discovery and design; drug delivery and molecular pharmaceutics; pharmacology and experimental therapeutics; and pharmacy practice and clinical pharmacy.

School of Pharmacy researchers collaborate on multidisciplinary work among our departments and across the university. Rutgers is one of the nation’s largest, most comprehensive university-based research enterprises, with an extensive network of laboratories, core research facilities, and health service centers. With our peers in Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, we forge research partnerships in cancer biology, toxicology, biomedical engineering, health economics, and patient-centered care, among other critical areas.

As the state university of New Jersey, Rutgers serves a state that is home to leading hospitals and clinical care centers as well as 15 of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. In this dynamic research environment, pharmacy scientists and clinicians find broad opportunity for exciting clinical, industry, and academic collaborations.
