Student Advising

Our goal is to provide sound academic advising – so that each student in the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy may make informed academic decisions that reflect personal interests, skills, and professional goals. The field of pharmacy is undergoing rapid change and we want to ensure that our students are well prepared for the exciting challenges they will face. Click here for the PharmD curriculum

General Academic Advising for Professional Program (P1 – P4) Student

Students in the professional program have completed all of the pre-professional requirements. They may have started at Rutgers as preprofessional students, they may have transferred here from other universities, or they may already have a bachelor’s degree. All students in the professional years of the program have faculty advisors.

Students are encouraged to contact their advisors and to respond to communications they receive directly from their advisors. Starting with the Class of 2014, students are required to meet their advisors at least once during the P1 year.

Advising for Special Emphasis Areas

Clinical Practice

For students with in an interest in pursuing careers in clinical practice, the faculty have identified six potential areas of practice: pharmacy practice residency, industry fellowship/position, community practice position, hospital practice position, managed care, and clinical research.

Research

For students considering careers in academia, and students interested in learning more about research, the faculty offer research electives in chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacology and toxicology, and pharmacy practice, as well as a robust honors program.

Dual Degree Programs
For students considering continuing their education after the PharmD, the School has developed dual degree programs that help students ‘test the waters’ in select professional fields, and get a jump start on a second degree. The School now offers the PharmD/PhD and the PharmD/MBA. See the list of specialty advisors for contact information.
