EMSOP Students Capture Second Place National Clinical Skills Competition

Congratulations are in order! EMSOP students Margaret Donlevie and Jacklyn Feingold captured second place in the 30th Annual ASHP Clinical Skills Competition in Las Vegas.

This year’s competition, sponsored by ASHP Foundation with support from Wolters Kluwer, featured two-person teams from 128 colleges and schools of pharmacy. As part of the competition, teams analyzed a challenging patient case and proposed the appropriate treatment options.

Competitors from the top ten teams were awarded a three-year subscription to UpToDate® Lexidrug™, assorted gift cards, and a choice of an ASHP self-assessment resource. Members of the top three teams also received a cash prize.

“Our experiences at Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, particularly the diversity of our clinical rotations, played a key role in preparing us for the Clinical Skills Competition. Being exposed to different practice settings pushed us to think on our feet, adapt quickly, and apply our pharmacotherapy knowledge across a wide range of patients and scenarios. These real-life patient interactions helped us build the clinical judgment that we needed to design a thorough, holistic care plan during the competition. In addition, our participation in simulation-based pharmacy electives taught us how to build clinical reasoning, communication skills, and overall confidence in working through real-life scenarios under a time constraint. This well-rounded training was a big part of our success at the national level.”
