ALEXANDRIA, Va. (July 16, 2019) — The National Community Pharmacists Association announced the top teams of pharmacy students who are finalists in the 2019 Good Neighbor Pharmacy NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition and our Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy team made it to the Top Ten!   “A solid business plan is vital for community pharmacists in being prepared to handle the challenges they may face in the future,” said NCPA Bill Osborn, PharmD. “This competition helps pharmacy students gain hands-on experience developing and testing various plans, with the additional benefit of receiving helpful feedback from pharmacy professionals.

The Student Business Plan Competition, supported by Good Neighbor Pharmacy, Pharmacists Mutual Companies, and the NCPA Foundation, is the first national competition of its kind in the pharmacy profession. The goal is to motivate pharmacy students to create a feasible business model for buying an existing independent community pharmacy or opening a new pharmacy, and to prepare tomorrow’s pharmacy entrepreneurs for a successful future.

On hearing of our team’s success, Professor Lucio Volino remarked, “This is amazing! I know that you each put an incredible amount of time and effort into the development and submission of the Business Plan. Placing in the top 10 is an incredible achievement. It truly is a testament to your hard work and commitment to the project, NCPA, and the school. I am extremely proud of each of you. Hopefully, you can stay involved and provide some guidance to next year’s team.

Teams will be recognized in October at the NCPA Annual Convention in San Diego. Our team will receive a special plate acknowledging our top ten distinction.

Congratulations to all!
