Bio

Lucio Volino is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Pharmacy Practice and Administration Department at The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. After receiving his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy, Dr. Volino completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical research and regulatory affairs at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, in conjunction with The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship Program.

Dr. Volino’s role as a Clinical Pharmacist involves managing an ambulatory care pharmacy practice site at RWJBarnabas Health Retail Pharmacy – Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, where he develops, implements, and manages patient-centered care programs focused on hypertension, medication therapy management, adult immunizations, and transitions of care. In addition, Dr. Volino supports the development and implementation of similar initiatives across six affiliated pharmacies.

At the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Dr. Volino chairs the Student Advising Committee and contributes to the Scholastic Standings, Interprofessional Education, Master Educators’ Review, and Admissions Committees. He is an active member of the New Jersey Pharmacists Association (NJPhA), American Pharmacists Association (APhA), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), and the Rho Chi Society. Dr. Volino serves as a delegate of New Jersey in the APhA House of Delegates and the School of Pharmacy in the AACP House of Delegates. Dr. Volino is the faculty advisor for NCPA and Rho Chi Society student chapters and co-advisor for the PharmaScript Student Yearbook Committee and the Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO) at Rutgers University. Dr. Volino also serves as Region II Councilor and Chair of the Bylaws Review Task Force for the Rho Chi Society.

Dr. Volino’s research has involved the Evaluation of New Jersey Pharmacists’ Perceptions of the New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program, Assessment of Opioid Abuse Risk Among Pharmacy Students, Use of Video Review in Self-Assessment, and Incorporation of a Medication Adherence Challenge in the Classroom Setting.
