Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy students take top prizes at state competition

This year, 71 research abstracts were submitted to the New Jersey Society of Health-System Pharmacists (NJSHP).  Of these, the top 10 were selected to give platform presentations.  Two of those 10 were EMSOP students, Knight Scholars at Saint Barnabas, Alexander Smith and Mary Cordon.  Mary Cordon won first prize, a tremendous accomplishment for a student.  Mary and Alex, we are so proud of you.

Mary's project:  "Examination of the effects of multidisciplinary home visits on 30-day readmission rates in COPD and pneumonia patients."

Alex's project:  "Retrospective analysis of cefepime and meropenem associated seizures in the neurologic intensive care unit."

A big thanks to Dan Abazia for the opportunities that the Knight Scholar program has presented for students, Donna Feudo for helping to make it happen, and Mary and Alex's research collaborators at Saint Barnabas Jessica Bente and Dawn Howard. Big thanks also to our faculty, notably Lucio Volino, Kate Opsha, Alison Brophy, and Rachel Meyers. Thanks also to Doug DeStefano and Jen Costello for their enthusiastic support of our "Knights."
