About Academy of Student
Pharmacists
The Academy of Students of Pharmacy, ASP, is the
student branch of the American Pharmacists Association and the New Jersey
Pharmacists Association. Members of APhA-Academy of Student Pharmacists are part of the country's
largest and oldest association of pharmacists, as well as the largest
association of pharmacy students in the world, representing over 100,000
students nation wide. Getting involved
at the regional and national levels allows students to
learn more about the issues affecting pharmacy today and to help shape
the future of their profession. At The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, abundant educational opportunities are
afforded for students as they develop and sharpen their leadership, communication,
and interpersonal skills.
Academy of Student Pharmacists sponsors
various programs throughout the college such as Pharmacy Career Day and
the annual Patient Counseling Competition. Academy of Student
Pharmacists also has numerous
committees, such as Operation Immunization, Operation Diabetes, and
Smoking Cessation, to name a few. For example, during Operation
Diabetes students go out into the community to test blood sugar and
educate patients about diabetes and the severity of the disease
state if undiagnosed. Programs like these allow
our members to apply their knowledge and talents in the local community.
Opportunities
offered by APhA and Academy of Student Pharmacists include guest speakers from different fields of
pharmacy, who provide further enrichment
to members and interested parties who attend our monthly meetings.
Academy of Student Pharmacists also has many benefits. To name a few, members receive
subscriptions to several publications, which include: American
Pharmacy, Pharmacy Today, The New Jersey Journal of Pharmacy
and Pharmacy Student.
In addition, Academy of Student Pharmacists offers one year free liability insurance for fifth year
students during their externships.
